The Wings of Change is a poem written by my late mother (Teresa Denton). At the time I was returning to teaching after working in tourism for many years and I was feeling a little unsettled.

I am so proud to have inherited my mother’s love of writing and miss celebrating our shared passion with her.

A little bird stood on the edge of the nest,

“I don’t know if I will be able to fly.”

Mother bird prodded: “You do your best,

You’ll never know if you don’t try.”

*****

There comes a time in all our lives

When we look around & yearn for more.

We think, we plan & a need for change arrives.

We arise from the bed & open the door……

*****

Life is not built with bricks & steel,

Each event & each change will play a part.

Always reach out & strive for the ideal,

It is surely built with each new start.

*****

Mother didn’t know if her chick would fall,

Her wings were strong & she could not stay.

The life lay ahead & she must heed the call,

She flapped her wings & flew away!

Dear Dawn,

Here’s hoping that all your dreams for tomorrow will come true.

I know that doors will open, but let’s hope that the right one will open up soon. I know that you will succeed in whatever you try.

Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Lots & lots of love,

Mommy.

Every year on World Aids Day (1st December), mom wrote an HIV / Aids poem, and this collection can be found on Amazon.
