I have never worked from a scientific premise as far as Rooibos tea is concerned. I chose it to promote because it’s pure herbal tea, and contains no caffeine or tannin. It makes a refined tea especially for babies.

Baby Rooibos tea is more expensive, and mothers could buy tit if they wanted to. But I feel that the ‘normal’ Rooibos works just as well if it’s made very weak & black.

When to use Rooibos tea for baby

This tea can be used for almost anything, and as the healthy option.

  • Thirsty babies who aren’t partial to drinking plain water may drink room-temperature tea.
  • It is given as a weak brew with no sugar or milk added. It is an acquired taste and may need a little perseverence.
  • It is very good for constipated babies. In severe cases, add a ¼ tsp of honey. Or alternately a little brown sugar.
  • Weak Rooibos tea can dilute fruit juices, because pure fruit juices should not be given to children. The sugar has a detrimental effect on their milk teeth.
  • Rooibos can also be used as a re-hydrate liquid where the baby has had diarrhoea and the usual re-hydrate fluid is not available.
  • Don’t forget about Rooibos skin products. The range is excellent and scientifically blended.

And remember, Rooisbos is not just babies. Anyone can enjoy this refreshing drink, hot or cold.

Cocktail Recipe

Rooibos tea comes in a variety of flavours. These are fantastic to make an ‘exotic’ non-alcoholic cocktail drink!

What you need:

  • Tall glass
  • Pure fruit juice
  • Medium strength black Rooibos
  • Glazed cherry
  • Cocktail umbrellas
  • Ice

Method:

  1. Dilute chilled fruit juice and tea 50/50
  2. Fill the glass 2/3rd full
  3. Add ice to fill glass to the brim
  4. Pop cherry, pierced with an umbrella on top

  Serve with flourish! And enjoy!

  1. Hello dear Dawn,
Your blog could not be more timely and the link to your mum’s blogs is a perfect resource for me.
Having a new baby in the family, and for the first time, one I can help with from day one has made me realise how little I remember.
Whilst I’m sure you haven’t written this just for me, it certainly feels like you have – so thank you🤗
