When my late mother visited me in the UK, I always took her on walking tours of the Square Mile. The City of London forms the foundation of so much of the city, and the country’s history. The City is littered with stories of people and animals, such as Hodge the Cat.
Mom loved writing poems, and this one she wrote about Hodge. Hodge belonged to Samuel Johnson (the Father of the English Dictionary) and has his own wonderful stories (which is for another blog).
Hodge the Cat
Each stone & cobble holds a story
Of adventure, disgrace & feats of glory.
The press, the barber & an Irish beer
And Hodge the Cat was also here!
