Your social media bios are the first opportunities you have to make an impression. So often I see bios that don’t explain what that person does. It’s great to say you ‘love Pina Coladas and a walk in the rain’, but this doesn’t tell people who stumble across your profile, anything of value.
Straightforward and clear
You need to say exactly what you do. No fluff. No creative waffle. Just the facts. And of course, in the least amount of words. The best template to use is:
I help (who) (do what)
All other platforms
There are two schools of thought about your bios on different platforms:
- Align all platforms – all your bios on the different platforms need to say the same thing and have the information and links
- Use different platforms for different audiences and aspects of your business – this would work if you do speak to different audiences with different products or services.
Example: if you are a personal development coach, you may want to use Facebook. When you add a book to your business, you may want to promote that on Instagram, targeting readers. And if you run workshops, LinkedIn may be the best place. Your bio would be slightly different for each platform, and relevant to that specific audience.
But, don’t make work for yourself!
And don’t forget to add the link to your lead magnet and email list sign-up form. This is the most important link! There is a direct correlation between the size of your email list and the value of your business, so don’t forget to add it everywhere!
Make sure your social media bios are always up to date!
