Being a writer means actually writing. I don’t write enough. I know I should and, of course, I want to. So, why don’t I? It’s an odd thing.
I enjoy it. It makes me feel free.
…and yet I don’t put ‘pen to paper’ regularly enough to make a difference to my life and my income.
As we come out of the winter in the northern hemisphere, I look forward to the inspiration the summer brings. Winter inspired me, but differently. It was amazing what sun can do to help one reset, re-evaluate and inspire.
Writer commitments:
- Update your social media profiles with the word WRITER.
- Participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) every year in November. It really is the best way to focus on your writing (fiction or non-fiction) for 30 days. You will be surprised how much you get done and how inspired you are when you see progress on your writing project. Although my recent book, Walking Tour Guiding, was a ‘2020 Lockdown Book’, it came together in NaNoWriMo 2020.
- Writing a regular personal blog post (at least every 90 days).
- Set the completion date for your first book. A book needs a deadline or it will never get finished.
- Write a weekly blog post for your business or project.
- Have conversations about your book with inspirational friends to help you along.
- Find a community to keep you inspired, and be your accountability to make it happen.
I guess that’s quite a bit to get on with…
They say writing is like using a muscle. The more you do it, the better you become.
Fingers crossed!
