Television didn’t come to South African until 1976. My love of radio came from our evening entertainment when I was growing up.
My earliest memories of listening to the radio was in the 1970s when, on a Sunday evening, my mother and I would huddle around a little portable radio. We prepared a ’finger food’ supper to listen to the police series ‘Squad Cars’ and then ‘Check your Mate’. It was such a happy time!
I do believe listening to radio helped my creativity. I had to focus to follow the story, and then create the visual in my own mind. Creative writing is about “showing and not telling”. And radio helps you do just that!
I was approached to be a guest on FromeFM in 2014. Guesting evolved to having my own shows. Now, almost 8 years later, I been involved and broadcasted on Mix Tape Radio International, Warminster Community Radio and SA Commuter Radio.

‘Video killed the radio star’ – maybe not. If anything, audio has evolved. It is becoming more important in people’s lives as we listen to podcasts and radio while exercising, baking, gardening etc.

I love radio more than ever. It is a wonderful medium to share your passions with a much wider community.
